Malte Rheingans completed his legal studies in Münster, Lübeck and Hamburg. From 2010 to 2016 Malte Rheingans worked as a lawyer in the fields of intellectual property, copyright, media and IT law at a law firm specializing in IP law. There he advised companies and associations, especially from the music, publishing and film industries, as well as software developers, music producers and artists, and led a large number of model lawsuits for leading media companies.

In 2016 Malte Rheingans became a partner at Clarius Legal Rechtsanwalts GmbH, where he was primarily responsible for advising media and telecommunications companies in the areas of IP and IT law with a focus on contract drafting and data protection. After Clarius was successfully sold to a large German law firm in Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2017, Malte Rheingans, together with Dr. Marcel Römisch, left the company and founded the law firm cogito.legal with him.

Dr. Marcel Römisch is specialised in commercial and infrastructure law in the fields of energy and telecommunications as well as litigation.

Dr. Marcel Römisch studied law in Göttingen with a focus on antitrust law. In his subsequent dissertation with Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Ulrich Immenga, he dealt with the antitrust law issue of the admissibility of press-specific cooperations. Dr. Marcel Römisch completed his legal clerkship in Lübeck, Hamburg and at the Federal Cartel Office in Bonn.

After his legal clerkship and research assistance for MDS Möhrle & Partner, Dr. Marcel Römisch first worked as a lawyer for Happ Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (now Möhrle Happ Luther) from 2010, before moving to Grigoleit, a law firm specialising in energy law, for which he worked as a lawyer until 2015.

From 2016 Marcel Römisch was responsible as an attorney for energy at Clarius Legal Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, most recently as a partner and authorized signatory.

After Clarius was successfully sold to a large German law firm in Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2017, Dr. Marcel Römisch left the company together with Malte Rheingans and founded the law firm cogito.legal with him.

Ria Schröder graduated from Bucerius Law School in Hamburg with the first state examination in 2016. During her semester abroad at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, she completed courses in international law and data protection law.

After graduating from university, Schröder did internships at Norton Rose Fulbright and the Christie’s auction house before joining Clarius Legal, a Hamburg law firm specializing in legal tech, as a research assistant. There she advised SMEs and large industrial companies as support for the legal department or external legal department on a wide variety of corporate law issues and gained experience as in-house support lawyer in a listed company.

From December 2020, Ria Schröder completed her legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Celle, which she concluded with the second state bar exam in December 2022.

Ria Schröder advises cogito.legal’s clients on issues of business law and, in particular, data protection.

From 2013 to 2018, René Kratzmann completed his law studies at the University of Hamburg.

After his university studies, Mr. Kratzmann worked as a lecturer at the University of Hamburg. He then took up employment as a research assistant in a corporate law firm specializing in civil law.

During his legal clerkship in the district of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court, Mr. Kratzmann dealt with matters of national and international scope in an international law firm. In particular, he focused on the litigation of clients’ claims in civil proceedings.

Since 2022, Mr. Kratzmann is working as an attorney at law at cogito.legal. He advises on commercial law, intellectual property law, and on other civil law matters.

Katharina Unger studied law at the University of Passau. She completed her legal clerkship in Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf. From November 2007 Katharina Unger worked as a lawyer in the Grigoleit law firm, which is specialised on energy law. At the end of 2014 she joined PwC Legal, where she also worked in the energy sector. Since April 2019 Katharina Unger has been working as a attorney for cogito.legal.

Hannah Deussen studied law with a focus on european and international law in Bielefeld and Strasbourg and subsequently completed her law studies in Berlin. At the beginning of her legal career, she worked together with Malte Rheingans and Yannik Wiehl at a Hamburg-based law firm specialising in copyright and media law, and thereafter at another law firm specialising in IT, media and data protection law. From 2015 to 2022, Hannah Deussen worked as a lawyer for the law firm DIEKMANN Rechtsanwälte, where she mainly advised a client active in the legal-tech sector in a large number of court proceedings, some of which went as far as the ECJ. She joined cogito.legal as a lawyer in July 2022.

Felix Muuß’s main focus is on corporate law advice to companies, the representation of shareholders in shareholder disputes, the advice and representation of companies in banking and capital market law issues as well as the enforcement of claims under commercial and contract law. Mr. Muuß also assists companies before arbitration tribunals.

After studying law at the University of Regensburg, Felix Muuß completed his legal clerkship at the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court and worked during this time in the German legal department of an American chip manufacturer.

Felix Muuß was admitted to the German bar in 2011 and then worked for a large German law firm in Frankfurt am Main for two years, initially focusing on corporate law, procedural law and banking and capital markets law for banks and clients from the financial sector. 2.1 Data processing for the provision of contractual services

We process your data in order to process the contractual relationships between you and us and to be able to make you contractual offers tailored to your needs. The data is collected in particular when concluding a contract. We only collect those personal data which are absolutely necessary for the processing of the contractual relationships. For your order we need your correct name and address data. We may ask for further data, such as the telephone number, so that we can communicate with you regarding the service you have requested.

The basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR, which permits the processing of data for the fulfilment of a contract or pre-contractual measures.

2.2 Data processing for communication with you
In addition to the contract data, we process your communication data (address, telephone number, e-mail address) in order to be able to contact you. Personal data that you provide to us by e-mail or via the contact form on this website will only be processed for correspondence with you or only for the purpose for which you have made the data available to us.

The basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR, which permits the processing of data for the fulfilment of a contract or pre-contractual measures.

2.3 Log files
With each access to our websites, usage data is stored in the so-called server log files. The stored data records contain the date and time of access, the name of the page accessed, the abbreviated IP address of the visitor, the referrer URL, and the product information of the browser used. The shortened IP address is deleted after seven days. These data cannot be assigned to specific persons. These data are not combined with other data sources.

The basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR which permits the processing of data to protect the legitimate interests of the data controller, provided that the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not prevail.

2.4 Data processing for the fulfilment of legal obligations
In addition, we may process your data to fulfil legal obligations (e.g. regulatory requirements, commercial and tax storage and verification obligations).

3. Data security
Your data is transmitted securely using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. Furthermore, we protect our websites and other IT systems through technical and organizational measures against loss, destruction, access, modification or distribution of data by unauthorized persons.

If you wish to send us encrypted e-mails, we will be happy to provide you with our public key. You need PGP encryption software (e.g. PGP or GnuPG). If you would also like to receive encrypted e-mails from us, please also provide us with your public key.

5. Duration of data storage
In principle, we delete your data as soon as it is no longer required for the above-mentioned purposes, unless storage is still necessary, e.g. on the basis of statutory documentation and storage obligations arising from the German Commercial Code, among other things. The storage periods are then up to ten full years. In addition, we keep your data for the period during which claims can be asserted against our company (statutory limitation period of three or up to thirty years).
